We Love Cantilever Dining Chairs

31 January 2011  |  help

A cantilever dining chair is any chair which has no back legs for support – instead it has a metal frame which sits along the chair base and curves downwards (similar to an angular ‘C’ shape) to create the legs. It is very important that high grade metal work is used for a cantilever frame to support a seated person.

The first cantilever chair base was designed by Mart Stam in 1926, and this style of chair base is as popular now as it was when it first debuted almost a century ago.

A unique feature of a cantilever dining chair is the gentle bouncing sensation that you get when you are seated in one...almost as if you are sitting in a rocking chair. This is a feature that it unique to cantilever dining chairs and adds an extra level of comfort.

Tips and Tricks for Interior Design

21 January 2011  |  help

For successful interior design there are a number of easy tips and tricks that can be adopted to make transforming a room simple, yet very effective.  The beauty with interior design is there are no hard and fast rules, what one person will like in terms of colour schemes for instance may not suit another, but that does not really matter. Following the steps below will help you achieve a room make-over that will not disappoint.

Reasoning
Firstly consider why you are carrying out the interior design project.  If it is for adding value to your property when you come to sell, then it will be a good idea to go for a more generalised look that will appeal to prospective buyers, if however you are already in your life time home it is possible to create a more personalised interior.

Planning
For any interior design project it is essential that some time is spent on planning.  Designing a room yourself can be achieved quite simply by sketching the finished result or alternatively look at software that can assist with design ideas.

The Design
This is always an individual choice as different people will want different things from their room design.  Think about your lifestyle and what you enjoy and start from that point.  If a living room is an area of relaxation think how you would want to relax, what type of sofa and lounge chairs, what kind of look, modern, chic, angular designs or a more traditional look.

Personal Taste
As previously mentioned interior design is a very individual process, there are no rules.  Personal taste for colour schemes for example allow for creativity and the best tip regarding this aspect is to ensure that selected colour schemes work well together, that colours contrast nicely and that the finished room will look and feel co-ordinated.  Remember warm colours such as reds and oranges will reduce the feeling of space and lighter colours will create illusionary space.

Budget
Finally give yourself an affordable budget and work within this figure – ensure you factor a big enough budget to complete the interior design project.

Coffee tables are again very much in vogue –designers are producing innovative coffee tables that look stunning in all types of home. Interior designers are also using coffee tables as a focal point in a room and the creative effect of a coffee table positioned on a large area rug is very popular. There are some fantastic ranges of coffee table available and here we spotlight some of the most stylish and chic that will add sophistication to your home.

The Glacier high gloss coffee table is based on Japanese contemporary style and is available in either black or white high gloss lacquer.  This particular range is fitting with the in vogue interior design style of angular furniture in contrasting black or white finish that is extremely popular in contemporary, minimalist homes.

The Zen range of coffee tables again emanates Japanese elegance and is available in a rectangle or square shape design.  The name of the range itself exudes the ideology of Buddhism and the design creates an atmosphere of relaxation suiting any home wanting to achieve the ultimate in style. See this long coffee table

Porto coffee tables are definitive in terms of ultra-modern linear design and are a stunning addition to modern homes.  The availability of the Porto range in high gloss black or white table top and the geometrically designed metal frame results in a striking effect and can help to create illusionary space. We especially like this high gloss nest of tables

The Cube coffee table stands apart as one of the most spectacular examples of eye-catching product innovation and takes the coffee table to new heights.  The low-level design makes the table a perfect vocal point in a modern living room but it the creative effect of the highly polished legs that add to the uniqueness of the piece.

The Fiori coffee table resembles the Cube in terms of the low-level design and polished legs but has a unique twist as the white table top is adorned with a beautiful floral design that helps to soften the geometric lines.

All the coffee tables in the spotlight will make your home look stunning and chic and of course make having a cup of coffee all that more enjoyable.

Benefits of a Storage Bed

8 January 2011  |  help

graffiti storage bed

After the festive rush is over there is a need to de-clutter and store away pillows, bedding and duvets from having guests over. Or if you were lucky enough to get some winter sun then there's always the need to store away those suitcases and summer clothing. That's why we love storage beds so much - they're great for storing away those items that you only need access to every so often, and they help to maximize the storage capacity of your existing floor space.

The great thing about storage beds:

- they already use existing floor space that would otherwise be 'wasted' if you used a non-storage bed
- it means you don't have to invest in additional wardrobe or cupboard space for storage
- it's great for storing away your seasonal clothing, suitcases, towels, pillows, duvets, bedding etc
- easy to open with a piston mechanism
- easy access to quickly retrieve/put away stuff
- ideal for smaller bedrooms that can't accommodate chest of drawers

Here are some great picks of our beds with storage bases:

Mala High Gloss Storage Bed
